New Chamber by Audrey Ryan contains a collection of graphite figure drawings of the New Chamber Ballet during a rehearsal period on January 21, 2015. Ryan’s recent work spans subject matter from figural studies to large-scale paintings, still-life compositions and portraits of musicians in situ. Each of these separate investigations contains a similar, gestural approach to markmaking that separates these candid drawings from stagnant, controlled sketches. The energy and quickness of Ryan’s drawing style, as well as her interest in both the dancer and the dance as subject for observation communicates in New Chamber.
