It opens with, “Dear Albertus, You’re lovely. Love from your secret admirer.” The following pages play on this opening, whether it be repeating the phrase “You’re lovely” in hot pink and black graphic text, spelling out the alphabet in pink (with HEY in black), or printing “U+ME GRL” beside an image of a young Michael Jackson. Albertus may not have an opportunity to reply, but his admirer has made their affection clear. An Ode to Albertus is one of three zines in the Ode to Typography Zines by Etta Voorsanger-Brill. This series of zines explores typefaces and their many different uses, from type as image to legible text. Albertus, Akzidenz Grotesk and Bodoni each have their own zine.
